It’s an R/T, so no. It is not worse than a Passat; it’s better

I think the big complaint with those was NVH issues (just generally feeling course) and the AWD ones were crap.

no idea if you’re talking reliability, but others to consider could be a flex awd or a subie of some sort (old forester or outback)

Interior wise? Yes much worse.
But otherwise...
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

My local sheriff (Travis County, TX) has a couple of those. They look pretty cool in stealth police livery.

Based on the wheels alone I say do it.

I heartily second this recommendation. New Foresters are fantastic, though definitely now are SUVs. Outback is equally good though.

I have an ‘05 Grand Cherokee with the Hemi. So not quite the same but I’m sure some similarities.
It’s a bit plasticky inside, but comfy. Not silent, little rattles here and there, but overall still a good cruiser.
There are definitely weird electrical issues here and there, but most of them solve themselves or are easily fixable .

I’ve driven one, the R/T my father in law daily drives. When it’s not in the shop that is. Saying the interior is
crap
would be an understatement. The engine is great. It rides like a sofa. Not my cup of tea at all, but if you want a quick highway cruiser and don’t care about interior quality or fuel costs it’s fine.

Then buy her a wagon, Professor.
As wagons go, I like the Subaru Outback.
Or you could buy her this, with the optional 428 CobraJet engine:

Those are crap, probably more crap than a Passat, but if it’s a B6 then those are fairly reliable. If it’s a B5, then not.

Our B6 passat was purchased for too much money and it was a poorly-maintained example. Oil burning through the turbo, cooling fans randomly malfunctioning, and a rear hatch that would not close and occasionally open by itself when the car was parked overnight.

A few Oppos have Magnums, including me. I’ll be honest the big girls has had some issue, but overall I think its a great car for a growing family. There’s lots of room for storage, and even in her altered state she does well on long trips. Oppo is not really a modern MOPAR friendly place. If you want good info from guys that know LX’s go to LXforums.com They also have a great for sale forum. I can personally vouch for it. Email me, and I’d be happy go into more detail about the grocery getter and the issues I’ve had.

Just stay away from the 2.7L ones. 3.5’s and HEMI’s are nice. Sure the interior isn’t the best materials, but they are nice riding cars. Plenty of power from the 3.5, 5.7 would be better. Tons of room in them (I’ve had an 8 foot ladder in mine). available in AWD as well if you wanted that.

I would love an E39 wagon with style 5’s and a sunroof. However, my wife doesn’t want to “pay for BMW parts,” even though she really, really wants an A4 Avant 2.0t

We had a bunch of those as company cars several years ago - the most reliable vehicle we’ve had, (our new 200s are junk, the tauruses we had before not great either...) They had the 3.5 motor. They were nice rigs. The sales folks bitched because they were rear wheel drive but honestly they needed to stop their whining and man up. Head room was a little tight but otherwise decent room, simple but solid interior, decent seats, would cruise all day at 75 with no issues.
